Understanding vs. Criticism

As Dale Carnegie said “Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do. But it takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving.”

Criticism induces resentment, you still not correct a wrong situation just by criticizing it. The person criticized will look for justification instead of solutions for the problem.

How understanding can be better?

Understanding what the other person intended in the first place can be far more valuable. Can be more intriguing and inducing a need to do better next time. It breeds sympathy, tolerance, and kindness.

Do you know already this old couplet? “Once I did bad and I heard ever/ Twice I did good, but that I heard never…”

How this resonates with you? Do you see any value in understanding, being curious about the why and the how or you prefer the critique attitude, that only allows you to relieve the bad feelings.
